University of New Orleans International Summer School

Since 1976, the UNO-Innsbruck International Summer School has enabled almost 10,000 students to pursue their studies in Innsbruck, a city nestled in the towering Alps in Austria.  From this capital in the heart of Europe students have ventured out and travelled to many parts of the European continent.  In the process they have immersed themselves in foreign cultures, encountered new people, and become global citizens.  The University of Georgia entered into a formal affiliation with the International Summer School in 1992.  Almost 2000 Georgia students and faculty have participated in this program.  Credits earned transfer as appropriate credit at UGA, and financial assistance is available for qualified students.  Information is available through the Office of International Education, 1324 South Lumpkin Street, University of Georgia, Athens, GA 30602.  Tel: 706-542-2900, E-mail: goabroad@uga.edu.

Academic Program

THE INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL requires all students to complete at least 6 hours (2 courses). A student may choose a 3rd course, thus earning 9 hours, after March 1, based on availability. No additional tuition will be due for a 3rd course.

In keeping with the purpose of THE INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL, courses taught are those enhanced by the setting in Austria and Europe. A concerted effort is made in all courses to reinforce the classroom instruction with the rich cultural surroundings. All courses are taught in English. However, students are urged to take a German or Italian language course either before or during the summer for a better appreciation of the European experience.

All courses listed will carry three credit hours unless otherwise indicated. The academic regulations currently in force at the University of New Orleans will apply in Innsbruck as well. Freshmen and sophomores are eligible to enroll in courses numbered 1000 and 2000, and upperclassmen (over 59 hours of credit) may take any of these courses as well as those numbered either 3000 or 4000. Several classes have prerequisites, which must be met.

Graduate students are eligible to enroll for graduate credit in courses numbered 4000 and above. 4000 level classes may have a 5000 level section added for graduate students upon request.


UGA students must complete a Transfer Credit Approval Form at least three weeks prior to their program start date.  This form serves to keep the student enrolled at UGA and enables the distribution of financial aid including the HOPE and Zell Miller scholarships.

Housing and Meals

THE INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL includes accommodation in a newly renovated dormitory in Innsbruck. Each room has a private bath, as well as a single bed, desk, closet and safe for each occupant. Most rooms are twins. Single rooms are available at an additional cost of $550.00 (subject to change). When all twins are full, students may have to be housed in a single room and will have to pay the single room supplement.

PROGRAM COST: $5,995
Payment Deadline: March 6

The cost generally includes: tuition, university fees, transcript fees, accommodations, full breakfast and luncheon buffets on all class days, opening and closing ceremonies, other social functions, some class field trips, round-trip bus transportation between Innsbruck and the Munich airport, nursing services and comprehensive medical insurance.

Not included in the costs: transatlantic airfare, passport fees, laundry , telephone calls, meals other than those specified, Eurailpasses, weekend travel, textbooks, and any items of a personal nature.

UGA students participating in the UNO-Innsbruck International Summer School are eligible to apply to the UNO-Innsbruck Ambassador Awards - a scholarship of up to $3,000.  See the Education Abroad Financial Aid and Scholarships page for more information.
