UGA Exchange, University of Rostock

The University of Rostock was founded in 1419 and is considered the oldest University in the Baltic area. The motto "Traditio et Innovatio" illustrates what makes up our university: Studying at a University full of tradition and history, but nevertheless is open to change and new ideas. The University of Rostock offers a wide variety of subjects in 10 different departments, very good student services, and high quality research and teaching opportunities.

There is always something to do in Rostock. This is a result of the vicinity of the University to the sea and the good infrastructure of the city.
Studying in Rostock is a win for your personal development. Not only will you acquire an understanding of intercultural differences, and a proficiency for the German language, but a study abroad also helps you begin creating international contacts and friendships.

The University of Rostock always welcomes new guests, and would like to say welcome to Rostock!

Program Location

rostockRostock is the largest city in the north German state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Rostock is on the Warnow river; the quarter of Warnemünde 12 kilometres (7 miles) north of the city centre is directly at the coast of the Baltic Sea.

Culture belongs to life and in particular to students’ life. Moreover, Rostock has, apart from its University, a University of Music and Theatre (HMT), which enriches the cultural life with a wide range of concerts and theatre productions. The Volkstheater Rostock is famous for its “Norddeutsche Philharmonie” (North German Philharmonic Orchestra). In addition to the municipal theatre and the University of Music and Theatre, Rostock is the location of many free theatres including an own student cabaret named "ROhrSTOCK".

On a national average, Rostock has a very high density of clubs and nightlife locations. Whether you simply don’t know what to do or just want to have some fun or want to party after a successful exam – there are plenty of places to go out and have fun. Apart from the regular pubs and discotheques, Rostock is famous for its various student clubs – managed by students for students. The Rostock University of Music and Theatre organises great performances and concerts with young players and musicians.
