Program LocationWith a population of 1.5 million, Montevideo is the capital and cultural center of Uruguay. Situated on the northern banks of Rio de la Plato, it combines Latin American character with a European atmosphere. Home to the mate drink, cowboys called gauchos, the world’s longest Carnival and condombe, a farm of Afro-Uruguayan music, Montevideo boasts a rich cultural tradition.
Montevideo is only a short drive from Colonia del Sacramento, a UNESCO World Heritage city, and Punta del Este, a renowned coastal resort. Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile and Sao Paulo are easily accessible from Montevideo by plane or bus.
