Final Reflection Questions
What were the most significant take-aways from your experience?
Program Testimonials
The most significant take-aways from my experience in Cortona were the memories made at all of my meals. Whether it was at Tonino's with the whole group freaking out about the amazing pasta dishes, eating a #4 sandwich from the market on the steps of Piazza Signorelli with Kinder chocolate, or sharing a bottle of Presecco in Florence while devouring a massive margarita pizza with 4 of my best friends, my meals were the best part of the trip. During these meals, I got to indulge in the Italian culture and cuisine while having meaningful conversation with my classmates. I will forever cherish the incredible meals I shared with my friends and value all that I learned about the Italian culture.

During my science course, I was exposed to new ways of thinking about today's healthcare crisis. Knowing this information has transformed the way I am approaching my post-graduate study plans. Being in Italy for a month taught me more about the country's culture than I ever could've imagined. In cortona, they are welcoming, loving, and willing to help Americans learn their way around!

What were the most significant take-aways from your experience?
Program Testimonials
The people I met on this study abroad have become some of my best friends. I will never forget the many memories we made over the course of this trip, truly the best time of my life. Traveling is now something I want to do more of, I'm already trying to plan my next destination. And when I travel I want to make sure to view the art, because seeing the old italian art works on this trip, some of them were truly amazing. Also i enjoyed the science course, even though it was a lot to learn in a little amount of time. The subjects studied are very important to everyday health and I have gained valuable knowledge on antibiotic use and cancer. Overall the most amazing experience of my life, I have walked out of this program with incomparable experiences.

Experiencing the culture and meeting new people was the best part of this whole trip. I also loved the two classes I took. The art history class gave me an entirely different outlook on art in general, and the science class touched on very important current health problems. Learning more about antibiotic resistance and cancer was informative interesting.

Studying in Cortona was the best experience I have had thus far at UGA. I was a little nervous at first because I didn't know many people on the trip, but I quickly made new friends and had the time of my life. Definitely go on this program! You will not regret it. What are your words of advice to students considering this program?
Program Testimonials
I recommend this program to everyone who needs to take a breather and step away from their life for a moment. To any students that participate in this program, leave all of your worries at home, do not complain about anything while in Italy, and never take naps (rest when you get back home). And remember to always explore!

What are your words of advice to students considering this program?
Program Testimonials
Do it. This Maymester was the greatest way I could've spent a month. I received 7 credits while learning from 3 of UGA's most distinguished professors. I'd also say that doing the reading ahead of time is a must. Dr. York and Dr. Pierce both started content rich discussions on the first day of their portion of Biology for Medicine. I learned a great deal from them.

Program Testimonials
I would recommend this trip to everyone! I had heard so many great things about this trip, but you can't validate anything until you actually go. I applied to three study abroad programs, but I chose this program. Cortona will forever be in my heart and I'm so glad I chose this trip. Italy is beautiful and the experiences are unforgettable. I've been back home for 2 weeks now and I still talk about Italy every single day!

How did the experience impact you and your future educational/career/personal goals?
Program Testimonials
The Biology for Medicine course gave me a good understanding of many of the medical issues facing the human race to date. I hope in my future career in the medical field that I will be able to help solve some of these pressing issues like the overuse of antibiotics. Instead of a typical science course with grueling lectures about specific details and facts, this course included discussion time and group work on an issue that was both relevant and interesting to work on. I thoroughly enjoyed learning from Dr. York and Dr. Pierce and loved having the opportunity to problem solve with my classmates and discuss current events in the medical world.

A new personal goal: Be successful enough in my future career so that I can afford coming back to Cortona every year! I fell in love with this beautiful city and want to come back for the rest of my life.

The Biology for Medicine course reaffirmed my desire to apply for joint Md/Phd programs. My personal traits have been molded by the friends I made, the experience of being autonomous in a foreign country, and the respect I know have for people of different countries and backgrounds.

Program Testimonials
I am now planning to travel to other countries in the years to come, as I now have the taste for traveling abroad. Also I intend on moving back to Italy for a period of time during my life when I finish school. Ive fallen in love with the country and I want to experience more for a longer period of time. I even have pulled up veterinary medicine schools in Italy that I may apply to, so that is a possibility as well. Also it is now a new personal goal to become fluent in Italian; I'm taking an introductory course in the fall to start off. This trip truly altered the course of my life and I'm so glad I had to opportunity to go on this amazing study abroad.

Program Testimonials
This trip made me feel like a more confident person. When I came on this trip I was so nervous, because I was definitely out of my comfort zone. I did not know anyone on my program, and I had never been in a foreign country without my family. Being forced to branch out and learning how to travel around Italy was a little scary at first but ended up being an amazing experience. It definitely improved my self-confidence, and reassured me that a career in medicine and working with patients is what I want to do.
