Diversity Abroad Network Scholarship

Eligibility: UGA is a Diversity Network Institution. The Diversity Abroad Network, in cooperation with the STA Travel, will offer twenty summer scholarships for full-time students to offset the cost of travel to study abroad host country. Have minimum cumulative 2.75 GPA or the equivalent at an accredited university or college. Be willing to share their experiences abroad with the community via blogs (at least once a week), article submission (one or two article required depending on length of study abroad program) and participate in the Discussion Boards.

Applicants must be full-time undergraduate or graduate students at a university or college that is a member of the Diversity Abroad Network. Economically disadvantaged students, African-American/Black, Asian, Hispanic/Latino, multiracial/ethnic or Indigenous/Native-American, students with disabilities and first generation college undergraduate students are strongly encouraged to apply.

Amount: Each scholarship is $1,000.

Dr. Natalia Gómez Passport Scholarship

The Dr. Natalia Gómez Passport Fund was established to empower persons with disabilities to pursue their dreams to study, work, intern, travel, volunteer, and expand their horizons abroad.  This scholarship funds the cost of a U.S. passport ($135 value).

Fund for Education Abroad

Eligibility: Fund for Education Abroad awards are intended to support students planning to participate in high-quality, rigorous education abroad programs. The financial support for these scholarships is provided by generous donors, who are committed to increasing study abroad opportunities for dedicated American students. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents currently enrolled as undergraduates in US universities/colleges who plan to study abroad for at least four weeks between this upcoming May and May of next year.

Amount: Up to $10,000 (Academic Year); $5,000 (fall/spring semester); prorated by no. of weeks, minimum $1,250 (summer).

Amount: $1,000 study abroad scholarship and one travel backpack. Two scholarships/year, one for the spring semester and one for the fall semester.

Whitaker International Program

Eligibility: The Whitaker International Program sends emerging leaders in U.S. biomedical engineering (or bioengineering) overseas to undertake a self-designed project that will enhance their careers within the field.

  • For graduate students only
  • Have U.S. citizenship OR be a permanent legal resident of the U.S.
  • Be in the field of biomedical engineering/bioengineering or a closely-related field (Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with substantive interest and background in Biomedicine).
  • Be no more than 3 years from the receipt of your most recent degree, or be currently enrolled.
  • Have language ability to carry out the proposed project in the host country at the time of departure.
